Description
Tapestry depicting The Wandering Housewife/ Woman Riding to Market. A woman, riding a mule, spins while carrying a baby in a sling and poultry in a basket. Around her waist is a comb for carding wool, and the mule carries a cooking pot and ladle. A foal suckles from the mule, which is accompanied by a goat, cow, pig and dog; a cat sits on the mule’s head. The inscription translates roughly as ‘See from all my household goods what an important person I am’. Part of the Burrell Collection.
